Building Bridges in the Holy Land - Jenin 2006
Our parish joined in with the Diocesan Project in response to an appeal from the Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem to support the completion of a Community and School Centre in Jenin.
The Jenin area of the West Bank has suffered greatly during the last few years and much of the infrastructure has been destroyed. The Latin Patriarchate of Jerusalem seeks to relieve the pressure on Catholic Christians and, wherever possible, the sufferings of those of other race or religious affiliation. Once finished, the Jenin Community and School Centre will provide for a variety of services of which the local parish is in desperate need. The Patriarchate needs £28,500 to complete the project, which also provides work for local people.
In the March 2007 edition of Our Diocesan Family, Bishop Michael wrote, `Although we cannot expect to raise the whole sum it would be wonderful if we could make a significant contribution.' The Parish Council has agreed that our parish should support this project. We have set ourselves a target to raise of £1000. Fund raising suggestions will be most welcome and contributions can be made through the parish office.
